PNG is a short form for Portable Network Graphics. It is used for lossless image compression, which minimizes the loss of image data during compression. It supports various colors, such as grayscale, indexed color, and true color, which are crucial in high-quality digital image display. Due to its accessibility across all image editing software and web browsers, the PNG format is one of the most popular formats with a wide range of applications.
PPM stands for Portable Pixmap Format, a simple image file format that stores pixel data in binary or ASCII format, identified by the .ppm extension. It is used to store color images in a straightforward, uncompressed manner. Although PPM is not widely used today and is not natively supported by many standard Windows applications, it remains popular in specific niches like academic research and image processing due to its simplicity. Various software, including GIMP and IrfanView, can open and convert PPM files.
To convert files from PNG to PPM use an online tool that supports mass conversion, like Convertjack. Such a tool transforms single or bulk images at once to save time.
Go to Choose File, and select any PNG photos you want to convert. If you want to do a bulk conversion, click Choose File and select all the PNG pics you want to convert.
After uploading the PNG image, click the “Select Format” button at the center. A drop-down menu will pop up; select PPM.
On the bottom right corner of the display, click the “Convert” button. Your converted PPM file will be ready for download.
Click the “Download” button on the right side of the PPM file, and the converted image will be downloaded. If you convert multiple files, each file will have a “Download all” button in front of it, and you can click each button to download all the converted files.
To save a PNG file as a PPM file, you first convert it to PPM and then download it.
Instead of converting a file manually from PNG to PPM, use an online tool like Convertjack to convert the file without losing any details.
After converting the PNG file, Download the PPM file and save it in the default folder for all your downloads on the desktop or mobile.
One of the advantages of PPM is that it stores uncompressed pixel data in a straightforward, human-readable format, which can be easier to parse and manipulate in certain programming or academic environments. The main disadvantage of PNG is that it is less straightforward for manual manipulation and lacks non-destructive editing capabilities, with changes applied directly to the image data.
